Event Dates: May 31 – June 1, 2019

Target Audience

This course is recommended for primary care providers, neurologists, geriatricians, psychiatrists, internal medicine providers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, physical therapists and other health care professionals who treat patients with dementia.

Course Description

This two-day conference will alert regional health care providers and social workers to the challenges faced by the elderly in our communities, particularly when they are afflicted by dementia. Evidence indicates that certain lifestyle factors experienced by the elderly, like depression, isolation and sedentariness can actually exacerbate dementia. Over the past 20 years, scientists have investigated proactive strategies as potential protective influences against cognitive decline and dementia. Social engagement, physical activity, cognitive training, and dietary modification are among the potentially beneficial approaches to mitigate cognitive decline. A delay in onset of dementia by just a few years has the potential to dramatically reduce its prevalence.
