Chuck McClatchey

Chuck was a member of the United States Air Force for 21 years, where he was a C-141 Flight Engineer, logging more than 15,000 hours. He flew 7 years in Special Operations, in support of Vietnam, invasion of Panama, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Chuck was employed for 22 Years with the Arizona Department of Transportation, wherein he developed their Intelligent Transportation System Equipment Maintenance Program for the greater Phoenix area. Chuck retired as the First Electrical Operations Superintendent, supervising 5 different traffic groups with a budget of over 20 million dollars. In 2013, Chuck accepted a position with a Construction Company in Dallas, Texas as a Maintenance Manager, but soon began having memory issues. Chuck was diagnosed 6 months later with Early On-Set Alzheimer’s Disease. After going through every emotion and with the help of a therapist he found he was able talk about his disease with others, which also helped him in understanding and accepting his own diagnosis.

Chuck began speaking at caregiver conferences and was selected for the 2016 Alzheimer’s Association National Early-Stage Advisory Group. He has traveled the US speaking at conventions and conferences on how to continue to live a great life after receiving a diagnosis of dementia. He also began attending virtual cafés, talking with others who have also been diagnosed with dementia. Chuck has been involved with Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) for over 2 years; he produces the “Professional Insights” and “This Dementia Life” podcasts for DAA. Chuck also works with Dementia Friendly Nevada and the Cleveland Clinic to enhance the lives of people living with dementia and to provide insight and resources to their care partners. Chuck currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada with his life partner Bobbie.
